Something special for friend's 40th

  • Hi, I know how difficult it is to buy something different, I recently had to buy for a First Holy Communion! However I found this web site where you can buy items and then get all friends/family to sign it and they can keep it forever as a great keepsake. All you need to do once signed is bake it in the oven! And as I recall, if a mistake is made you can use a bit of white spirit to wipe it off and start again..They do all sort's, plates, glasses, musgs etc.
Might be worth a look...happy hunting!

  • For my friends 40th birthday present I arranged with her Husband to borrow her children whilst she was at work, and using my digital camera sat them in a field of poppies and took some really nice photos. I then used an online firm called photobox.com and had a mouse mat, and notebook made using the photos. My friend was really chuffed, and it probably cost around £14 all together.

I have also made recently a photo book using the same company for a 25th anniversary, but you could do it for a 40th. You have to have some time and patience, and be able to get your hands on lots of photos (the funnier the better) that you can scan in on your computer to use. Bit like the big red book on 'This is your life'. Cost around £30 but was something to keep and pass round at the many parties that followed.

  • It's my big brother's 60th next week, and he is very hard to buy for as he has everything he could possibly want. But I ordered a personalised calender for him from a website and it is superb - he's gonna love it. When I was little and he was a teenager, he played electric guitar and has spent his life as a frustrated rock star. This calendar has shots of things like Greatest Hits CDs with his name on them, World Tour posters, a signed guitar, a stage set up at a big venue with his name up in lights...you get the idea! It only cost £14.95 and I am soooo excited at the thought of presenting him with this gift.......he's really going to laugh. And they will start the calendar on any month of the year, so he can hang his up and start using it in October. They've got other choices too, suitable for male and female. I'd give you the name of the company, but I haven't done this before and I'm not sure I'm allowed to - but you should be able to find it.

  • Some friends of mine recently emigrated back home to New Zealand after being in the UK for 15 years. They have a little daughter who just turned 2 and as a present we made a photo book of her first two years on iphoto (well actually my partner put together the book). Not sure if it is for Mac's only but the end result is very sweet and dare I say it thoughful. Next to the photos you can enter captions, dates etc and the end result is really impressive.
  • I was 40 this year.
A friend turned up at school pick up with a 40 helium balloon, which was a little embarrassing but touching.
My hubby had booked for me him and the kids to go to the Grand Hotel for afternoon tea which was dead posh and lovely.
My sister has just moved to New Zealand and I bought her a 'charm links' bracelet - a modern and lovely charm bracelet. It was £25 for the silver bracelet, and £10- £15 for each link. They each have girls names so you can either choose special names or beads you love the look of? It is something that can be added to over the years.
