two mortgage offers?

We have received a mortgage offer for our purchase, but we are considering whether to go with another or not.
Is it possible to make another application in the meantime with a different lender, but then go back to the first lender and take that mortgage if we decide?
The first lender has hugely under-valued the property, and I gather that appealing the decision is rarely successful so our broker has suggested trying a different lender.

is the property worth that price in comparison with recent sales in the area? if it is, the valuation will likely be similar"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

The seller's estate agent has put the evidence forward and seems very confident, but I'm planing our next move if the appeal doesn't work.
There was only one sale in the last 5 years on the same road, an identical property that went for more than the valuation given.
If we don't get a decent valuation then the next step it to re-negotiate the price.0
