State Pension

My Husband is due to retire in 4 weeks age 65. He claimed his state pension 2 months ago ready for his retirement but, as yet not received anything to say how much he will be receiving. Anyone know when he should be notified. Thanks

  • you may expect a letter outlining payment details from DWP.
    assume he claimed by phone?

letter probably just before first payment.

SP payments normally made 4 weekly (in arrears)

so first payment may be made up to 4 weeks after his retirement date.

If he claimed 2 months ago I would expect it to have been processed by now and an Entitlement Notice despatched which shows what the award is worth. It is possible that they are waiting for information from HMRC or that the entitlement notice could have been lost in the post. It is also possible, but unlikely, that the clerk processing the claim forgot to request the entitlement notice! I would right them up to ask.

When the first payment is processed (about 7 days before the date of the first payment which I think is on the entitlement notice) the First Payment Notification is produced which confirms the amount of the first payment and the amounts going forward.
