A cheap mattress?

I want to get a new mattress but I don't like the idea of spending a fortune on it. I mean, some mattresses cost an arm and a leg. I wouldn't mind getting a latex or memory foam one but those things are the most expensive. Any advice?
P.S. Up to $400 is fine.

Whatever you do, don't buy a cheap mattress. Remember, you get what you pay for & cheap mattresses are cheap for a reason-because they are made from cheap components & materials. After a couple of years you'd need a new one.
You spend a huge portion of your life sleeping, so owe it to yourself to ensure you sleep well & comfortably. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
you spend 1/3 of your life in your bed. You may as well make it a good one.
I work from home and spend the other 1/3 in my chair I bought a herman miller chair for £900 and £700 on a bed. I am by no means wealthy. My car is probably worth £1500. But I know it's worth spending good money on these. Look at it this way I spent the same amount i spend on my car as I spent on my chair and bed. How many people can say that?0 -
What sort of budget are you talking about?0

I-Sleep Ready Now Anti-Allergy Memory Double Mattress from Argos £149.99

These can be collected from in store as they come rolled up.
They do occassional drop the price by £20 or so.For thousands of people this Christmas, their must-have gift is far more vital than the latest gadget or toy – it’s blood. Please don’t let the festivities and cold weather prevent you from giving them the ultimate gift… give blood.0 -
As stated, do not buy a cheap mattress. Some items you may get away with being cheap, a mattress isn't one of them.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Agreed re very cheap mattresses, got one of those mattress & frame deals from Argos, 10 years later the frame is fine the mattress didn't last beyond a year.
I spend more time than average in bed but simply cannot afford anything very expensive.
I went for a Sealy from Mattressman, the cheapest Sealy they offer at £149 (single), 4 years on I am due for a replacement and planning to get the same again.
I have been turning top to tail (it's a "no flip mattress") every week for a few months now to keep it going until saved enough, and i've made it last longer than I thought!
(I am aware some think £149 for a single mattress counts as "cheap" or "unfit for my children let alone me" as I was once told :rotfl: )0 -
