Is a remote IFA going to be a problem?

I need an IFA for retirement planning purposes and I have had a look at unbiased.co.uk to locate potential people in my vicinity. I have also recieved a couple of recommendations from friends and relatives.
In fact, I have actually met my mother-in-laws IFA whilst helping her with some finance issues. I came away thinking that on a personal level, I would be comfortable to use him as my IFA . The downside is that he lives 150 miles away from me.
I would, of course, need to check out his qualifications etc before proceding, but I was wondering what you thought about using an IFA that is based 150 miles away from me.
Face to face meetings would have to be limited to a couple of times a year, all other contact would have to be phone/mail/email.
What issues do you think may be a problem for this set-up.
Any comments welcome.
