Bank charges

I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place, so im sorry if i have.

I bank with NatWest, 12 years ago my account was changed to a gold account.
For about 10 years now, I've been living in my overdraft, so I'm being charged for the now upgraded platinum account, and interest on my overdraft, I wasn't aware at time I would be charged interest on my OD, but as it comes out my bank, I have to keep paying it.
Then today when my bank and interest charges are due, I've also been charged an arranged OD fee. Which I've never paid before and was never made aware that they would be taking.
I have gone through resolver about the account and this was before the OD charge of £6.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal as well as paying £20-£30 a month interest, and what's my best plan of action.
I cannot find the money I need to get out of the OD, so I feel completely stuck in this endless cycle of bank charges :(

Check on this site if you're eligible for a money transfer credit card (virgin & MBNA & tesco do this) and transfer the cash to the debit card to clear the overdraft. Then each month the £30 will actually reduce the balance. And make a complaint in writing to your bank regarding the charges. There's a template on here somewhere. Get that sorted and then move banks. Quite a few are doing lovely incentives. But read the t&cs before you apply. X

  • Unfortunately, my credit isn't great, so I won't be able to get a credit card.

Other option is to open a new basic bank account, with a bank with whom you have no debt, then write and ask your old bank to freeze interest whilst you pay off the balance over time.

It will effect your credit rating using this method, but as its bad already, you have nothing to lose.

  • Thank you. My bank has been contacting me to make an appointment to come and discuss my account, so I think I'll do that. I've recently opened a lloyds account, because of doing the resolver claim, so I have that account in place.
