Have a good look at what is on locally.
Our local library does an "activity" every Saturday morning for free, and there are a number of non-resident parents who bring the "weekend" kids.
Scour the local papers and freebies - for example next weekend at our nearest town there is a great music festival, all kids' tickets £1 and there is a special children's concert at £1 for accompanying adult.
Also look at local leisure centres & sports halls - they sometimes do "taster" sessions cheaply. Check out the prices at your local swimming pool - they sometimes do cheap sessions.
I agree with GreyQueen that you need to get into the right frame of mind. Good luck!0 -
I used to lodge with a single mum of three on benefits. It was instructive to watch how she conducted herself. She'd get the free paper which came through to door and scour it for activities for the kids and useful things like jumble sales. She'd keep an eye open for school holiday things laid on the the council's parks which were either free or for tiny amounts of money. She'd always check out the notice boards up at the shops, too.
She'd go walking or biking. She traded off skills for piano lessons for one child. She was a middle-class lady who'd fallen into hard times following divorce, but she was creative and hard-working and had shedloads of initiative and I was always impressed with her great attitude.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
