Hi all
If someone has a tax code of 1838L what would be the reason?
What types of things would give someone a higher tax code except for the marriage allowance?
Basic salary + car allowance is approx. 37k
+ overtime throughout the year taking salary over 43k

I cannot think of anything that would take your tax code this high, if you do not have a tax notification to advise this code I would suggest contacting HMRC to see what is happening. Has your tax code always been this high or is it a recent jump?0

Prior year overpayment?Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0

Is this your tax code? If so as was said above contact HMRC. Professional Subscriptions maybe part of it?0

How do you get your fuel paid? When I had car allowance I got 12p per mile from my employer, HMRC allow 45p a mile for first 10,000 miles and then 40p a mile, my tax code was adjusted to take that into consideration.0

Claiming higher rate tax relief on pension contributions?0 -
Mine is 1832. Personal Pension Relief (40% taxpayer paying into a SIPP) and Gift Aid higher rate relief accounts for most of the difference.Ethical moneysaver0

It was 1967L before Dec 15.
pension contribution via employer is 7%, matched by employer at 7%.
Fuel is paid with my monthly pay once mileage is submitted.
So I think it could be either the fuel tax code adjustment or 40% tax relief but not sure.0 -
