Hey Niigata, was any of your debt collected when you were overseas in Japan, or was all of it created in the UK?

All UK based debt.. In Japan I am debt free... no credit of any sort and plan to keep it that way! Learnt my lesson.

So did you use your UK Credit Cards whilst you were in Japan? (Sorry, I know a lot of questions)...

Not "MY" uk cards.. that would be a really bad thing I think if I was filing for bankruptcy soon after using them.. luckily my father supported me a little until my first paycheck here. I was able to use his credit card but with my name on.. if that makes sense..
Off to work for me now (9:31am here).. but will try and reply after work to any more questions..
    Are you in Japan?

Hey niigata, me again... I wanted to ask if you had to return to the UK at any point during the whole bankruptcy process? I ask because I wrote to the CAB about this matter about a week ago and received the response earlier today stating the following:

"We also feel the High Court were wrong in their suggestion, as to the possible use of a "power of attorney" - as these are only used for people with "mental capacity problems", and not in situations such as yours."

I have already been told from a number of organisations that I can in fact issue a "power of attorney" to a third-party despite being overseas. I just wanted to check if this is what you did in your case?

    Thanks again...

I used power of attorney to enable me not to have to leave Japan.. I had to fill in all the paperwork here then see a lawyer who authenticated it and I then send it back to the UK for the BAS to submit for me.
It's not as bad as it seems and it's such a relief when it's completed.. Hope it goes well for you.
