Hopefully MrsM will be able to claim for this from 2011-12 to 2015-16 at 40 weeks per year and 15 weeks of this year when youngest reaches 12. Will cut about £3K off the £5.5K we were about spend on class 3s. The government have not exactly made this headline news have they !0

Not sure about backdating the claim to be honest. I must admit it came as a surprise to me.0 -

I've just discovered this in another section and wondered if it is worth me claiming it next year? I will be looking after my grandson a few days a week permanently soon whilst my dsughter starts her teaching job. She will be earning enough to pay NI contributions.
how can this information be made more widely available to the people that will benefit the most (it's mostly grandmothers who look after the grandchildren and mostly a certain age group that could benefit from the NI contribution transfer)
You could try contacting the 'retirement Agony Uncle Steve Webb' with your query. He has received praise for his articles from some of our most knowledgeable pension experts (SnowMan and hyubh):

If you get a response it would reach a wide audience.0 -
My daughter had a letter this morning stating that MrsM had been awarded her child care credits for 2011-12 to 2014-15, 40 wks each year :T0

So you could back date it then? Excellent news!
Whatcha gonna do with the extra 3.5K then? Do I smell a holiday?0 -

Perhaps by now he has "boned up" on the complexities of GMP/COD.

And I find this

http://www.puntersouthall.com/pension-insights-and-views/Insight%20Attachments/CPI_versus_RPI_July_10.pdf
rather ironic.
Take for example a pensioner of a DB scheme with GMP and whose scheme index links to RPI.
Formerly, he would have received RPI increases on both parts of his pension.
Since dear Steve's changes, that part of his pension that is GMP increases only by CPI.........
And as for the women's pension age debacle.........
