Hoover not picking up again (or maybe just less dust about)

Options
Had this problem a few months ago for a week, the hoover just seemed to pick up nothing or at most a few specs of dirt, I checked the hose and it wasnt blocked some dust/crumbs fell out of hose making me think there was a blockage but couldnt find one.

I did last time I used it put shake and vac down so wondered if that did something to it but the filters, cup are empty and wiped down so it looks spotless.

Trying to understand why I have not even dust/lint being picked up.

If it's a upright vacuum cleaner check if the brushes are going around when switched on.

When you say hoover, do you mean Hoover, or vacuum cleaner? Or is it a Dyson, or some other make? The name of the model might be helpful. Can you go on youtube and look up video's of your vacuum cleaner.

I had this with my Dyson and as I have had it for over 10 years I thought well maybe try to upgrade. There was a deal in the Dyson website that if you ordered the one I wanted you got the hand held free so I went for it. Ordered on Friday at 4pm delivered on Saturday at 1.30pm - well what a difference I thought I was ok 2 bin empties later the carpets look so much better even my husband commented.
Now I know this is a money saving site but i am really impressed with both even though it was a pretty hefty price tag of £400 -gulp

Its very strange its intermittent, sometimes it picks a lot up sometimes next to none, the plastic that unscrews over the brushes has been cracked since I got it so I assumed at first it was making it uneven hence the problems so glued the part together but now have a new problem.

Unless the height is adjusted to the middle then the brushes get stuck, or I have it at lowest setting but hold the hoover handle at an angle.

I would just set it to the middle setting but that barely picks up anything whilst the low setting picks up a lot but needs to be at an angle.
