investing in retirement

Discussion on this board is dominated by the problems of saving and investing for retirement. By contrast, here's a discussion about investing in retirement - which must become a big deal as fewer and fewer people have DB pensions, and rely instead on DC pensions and ISAs.

An interesting article, but US originating.
The SSI federal retirement payments seem less generous (at the moment) than the rate set for the single tier (understanding not everyone gets this much, but some at the moment can get more).
Also, if you have private pension income this I think is deducted from the federal payments, whereas in the UK prive pensions are paid on top of the SP.
So perhaps the pressures over here are less, at least early in retirement when part time working can still be an option?
Maybe a case for considering only taking natural income for the first few years of retirement if possible?

Since many people seem to want to leave their pension wealth to their children presumably they are all planning to get an income stream from investments without significantly depleting the capital.
