I'm fairly certain HMRC are moving to clamp down on the 'taking income as dividends' route.
  • I've heard something similar - if they do then there's not much I can do on that front.
    Until then though...

There's always other games to play too - just so long as it is legal it is all fair game I reckon.
Probably not as profitable, but still.

Hi Protector, have you thought about applying for a 0% credit card asap to shift that overdraft? Sounds like HSBC are trying to blackmail you into consolidating. If you can possibly get this credit card then put as much money as you can on it (but NEVER spend on it!)

I have thought about a solution like that.

My concern is that my current situation may not allow for it.

I have recent 3 arrears totaling almost £1500 on my Experian record (not checked buy there's no way HSBC won't have marked it) and an income that is as irregular as it is unprovable.
(One of those should not be on there as it was entirely HSBC's fault as explained earlier and in another thread)

I was thinking about ways to shift the overdraft balance and 0% would be ideal (breathing room and nothing more) but I really don't feel like I'd have much hope of getting such a thing.

I'd have to be applying in the next couple of days to stand any hope of getting it set up in time for the overdraft facility closure too.

    Any thoughts?
    Suggestions of likely candidate cards?

Have a look at Martin's article here:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/balance-transfer-credit-cards

There's a section on it about the best cards for poor credit scorers. Get on to it now!
  • I was on that while replying in my previous post.
I used the money supermarket search (the one with questions, not the quick search) and it has said I've got a "Fair" rating.

That gives several options of 0% balance transfer cards.
That in itself is promising, only being self employed and in a bit of a mess with it right now, I don't have a PROVABLE income and combined with the arrears on my Personal Loan right now I feel this might well cause problems.

Sky Card just gave me a 0% for 12 months card hon, and if they'll give one to me.... ;)

    Love Jacks xxx :D

  • Interestingly, skycard didn't come up in my results on moneysupermarket.

Well I'm pretty sure CC companies are all evil - it's just that some are more evil than others, and sometimes they're a necessary evil!

Shuffling debt onto 0% cards is working for me - but you do have to be very strict with yourself! (Where's the Miss Whiplash icon when you need one ;) )

Pick a likely candidate and apply hon - just don't apply to lots all at once - and do it throgh Quidco if you possibly can (Egg turned me down on there though sadly. Perhaps on account of me having no visible means of support at present! :rotfl: )

  • See that's sorta what concerns me. No visible means of support.
I'm self employed yet haven't registered (didn't know I needed to at first and been putting it off ever since I found out due to financial worries - "the stupid things we do" and all that) and as such have no real accounts to show.

Other than saying "this is my potential income" I have nothing.

Why go through Quidco? What difference does that make? (Not sure I've even heard of them before)
