Company says payment received but it's still in my bank!

Options
I placed an order for a relative with a meat company on the 29th for £55. This showed as pending in my internet banking immediately but the next day it disappeared from the pending payments and my account was showing it as credit.

I waited a few days and the payment still wasn't taken. Today I received confirmation that my order was being delivered but I noticed they still hadn't taken payment so I contacted them via email as they don't have phone support and was told they had taken payment yesterday. I have rung the bank who say the pending payment wasn't authorised and timed out so the transaction was cancelled.

Emails have gone back and forth between the meat company and I with me explaining what the bank have said but the company is absolutely adamant the payment has been received and cleared into their account. A lady called me a little while ago to say they 100% have the money and they don't understand why the bank are saying the payment hasn't cleared. The bank have said that 100% the transaction hasn't gone through and that the company must have made a mistake.

I have never in my life come across anything like this and am at a loss as to what to do! As far as the meat company are concerned the deal is done no matter how much I explain that I haven't paid them!!

The bank are saying to just not worry about it as it's the company's mistake and that that they would need to contact me to arrange repayment as they can't just take money without my authorisation.
Has anyone come across anything like this before?
