Problems with my Agency

Teasle
Hello All,
I am hoping someone can give me some advice.. I have been employed and working under my agency as a temp since Summer 2015 (in the same job).
On 1st February 2016 my manager here at my workplace contacted my agency to try and organise a pay rise for me. After multiple calls and emails this finally happened one month later. Since 1st March I have been chasing my backdated pay, only to be shrugged off at every turn. I was promised it would be in my account before Easter, which came and went, and now my calls and emails are being ignored altogether! My calls and emails to the individuals' manager are also being ignored. All I have been told is that a document is awaiting signature from a manager, but I am not allowed to chase them directly.
It really just feels like once these people have you in a position, they don't want anything to do with looking after you after that..
My question is this; Does anyone know how I can resolve this?
It is very awkward chasing them this whole time as they are my employers. I am going on holiday soon and I really wouldn't mind having a bit of extra money..!
Thank you in advance.

I cannot see there is anything that you can realistically do. It isn't up to their client to tell them that you should get a pay increase - their client isn't your employer. Technically, if the client increases the payment to the agency, there is no obligation for any of that increase to be passed on to you, no matter what the intention was. You have agreed to do a job of work for the agency, at an agreed rate. Until such time as they change that rate officially (which obviously hasn't been done if it still requires signing off) then you aren't entitled to a pay increase anyway.
I would agree that agencies are often not as assiduous as they ought to be about things, but there really isn't much you can do about it.0 -
Thank you Sangie, perhaps my post should have been clearer, however!
They have already officially changed my pay and sent written confirmation of this in early March, in this email they also promised me and my workplace that the rise would be backdated for the 5 weeks my manager had been requesting.
I am getting the higher rate now, however what i am chasing is the backdated amount (Which should be £500+!).0 -

Ok. So - would you be willing to take them to court? Or threaten to? No? I didn't think so. And it would be very sensible to not be willing to. Which I am afraid still leaves you with having to wait on them getting around to it. The only "next steps" if you have exhausted asking everyone you can, would be court action.0 -
Does your place of work want to take you on? even on a FTC0

Sangie - Of course not, I was just hoping to find a better way of resolving this now that my line manager and I are being ignored. You probably are right that there isn't one but I am still open to ideas. Thank you again for your advice!
Guest - They do want to take me on, however certain aspects of the organisations' structure are delaying this, and we are not sure how long it will be before I can become permanent here. This is why they have organised a pay increase in the meantime.0 -

So ask for a fixed term contract, in essence the same as they have now. Except they pay you direct, long term they'll save on the agency fee.
Short term they'll pay out approx. £1,000 to the agency (they will anyway if they take you on)0 -

I am working for a public body through my agency. The organisation are only allowed to employ/give a contract to one person under the job title I am doing. The person I am covering has been on extended leave and should soon be taken off of the organisation's payroll, however until this happens they cannot replace her with someone else in a substantive post; be that permanent or as part of an FTC, as their contract with the body does not allow it. What a mess!0 -
I am afraid it is a little more complicated than that...

I understand that's what you've been led to believe, but it's not accurate.
Since I started out as reed, working at the NHS and then became FTC (and then again consecutively)
The person cant be 'taken off the payroll', they will either be dismissed, or mutually agree to terminate.
Either way, it's not correct.0 -
Have you thought of doing something like this:
Resign from the recruitment agency (Don't most as temps have a 1-week notice period? [I do.] I guess it all depends on what your contract says).
Then you can work as a freelance administrator (or "self employed"), and have the organisation hire you.:EasterBun0 -
I would ask your manager to push it for you if they haven't already. They are the client they are paying out the money and signing off the timesheets.
After that I'd go to citizens advice. This would really do my head in. I'd call them every single day and have no shame about it.
I'd also post my issue publicly on their company twitter to get their head office's attention if that didn't work. something like- (Hey - I can't seem to get anyone at my local office to reply and I've been waiting for my arranged pay rise for weeks now. Who can I get in touch with please?)
I'm frustrated for you!!!
Who's the agency? I want to avoid them like the plague! It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'
