remortgage after iva. help!!!

we had an iva which was paid of about 2 and a half years ago with some inheritance money. obviously a relief to have got rid of it and in hindsight wish we had not entered into it in the first place but we were desperate and getting into more and more debt.
we now wish to remortgage as we are on a high interest rate (as a result of the iva) and knowing full well that we have an extremely poor credit rating don't know where to start. would we be able to go to a high street bank/building society to get on a much lower rate? if anyone has any advice that would help we'd be exremely grateful.

Hi, There are lenders out there who specialise with people with poor credit ratings. It is unlikely any high street bank would offer you a mortgage although if you shop around and speak to reputable brokers deals can be had.
I am currently remortaging (although it seems to be taking ages!) and will have a interest rate of under 6% what is much better than I thought after I had a repossession earlier this year.
As raq already has said you would get a better response from mortgage experts on the other forum,
