dried milk best before question

Hello
Can anyone tell me if dried milk is safe to use for longer than after the six weeks it has been opened and if so how much longer after?
The date on the packet is best before so I know it can be used after this date but it is the part where it says "once opened use within six weeks" I am unsure about.
Thanks

I decant the packet of skimmed milk powder ( I use Mr.Ts) into a tin with a tightly sealing lid and then just use it up as I need it. The tin lives on a shelf in the kitchen at room temperature. Sometimes I use it quickly and sometimes it sits for a while but it never goes off to my knowledge and always makes up OK. I tend to ignore the 'use it up in 6 weeks' messages as things seem to stay good and not to deteriorate for far longer than that. It would make dried milk an expensive commodity if I had to discard it with only a couple of portions used after 6 weeks. I guess the same goes for anything else that was preserved like chutney, jam, ketchup, mustard, even custard powder none of them had best before dates back in childhood days and we were fine then so I don't take much notice of them nowadays either.0

Thank you I am normally fine with ignoring best before dates. this has thrown me as its milk, I would not drink milk that is a long time out of date!0
