Parking in a 'Restricted Street' - HELP
Hi all,
Yesterday, I parked on a single yellow line on a street. When I returned, I saw a parking ticket which says:
01 - Parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours
Now, I did a bit of googling and worked out that this usually refers to parking in a controlled area, which I can now see is on google maps on the other entrance to the street. The regulations says they must put up signs at the entrance to the controlled zone. However, I came in through the entrance that didn't have the sign.
Is this a valid grounds of appeal?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

You should post this in the correct forum (Parking, Tickets and Parking) to get help0

Your streetview link doesn't work.
I'm guessing that you were in W Heath Drive. Were you on one of the single yellows, or in one of the resident bays? It all looks very clearly marked, from the Streetview images.0 -

I've updated the link to show where I was. It was a SYL. I believe it's to do with the area being part of a controlled zone, which I wasn't aware I entered. That's because the end that you entered is well within the CPZ and the boundary signs are elsewhere before you get to the junction.hXXps: //www dot barnet dot gov dot uk/dam/jcr:1ea7d607-a56a-4da4-b417-5cbc10724d90/Golders_Green_CPZ dot pdf

I've updated the link. My bad. This actually looks as though its a proper council parking ticket.
If so pepipoo is the best place to go for advice.
(The MSE parking forum concentrates on private parking charges)
Thanks, I've tried, so far I'm hearing a lot of negatives...fingers crossed....0 -
Hello OP
You say you didn't know you were parking in a controlled zone however you seemed aware you were parking on a single yellow line.
You say you had to google for more information?!?!?!?!?!
The yellow line is there to give you a hint there is some sort of restriction. The idea is you get out of the car and check the sign which should always not be too much of an effort to find.
What did your competent driver's 'gut feeling' tell you when you parked on the single yellow line?0 -
The Vale end of the road has the controlled parking sign, the other end at the Finchley Rd jct has a yellow parking restriction sign, what did that say?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I think I must have missed the controlled parking zone sign from the entrance of the town (I was expecting there to be a sign at the street entrance, hence assumed it was a normal SYL and parked.
Currently thinking of appealing, but not done so yet.doningtonphil wrote: »Hello OP

Firstly, calm down, no need to be rude. If you are a driver yourself, you should know that it is ok to park on SYLs on sundays where there isn't notice saying otherwise. In my case, there were none within walking distance and the reason turns out (likely, though not confirmed) to be that this is part of a controlled zone (Golders Green).
You can see they have put signs on one side of the entrance to the road, but not the other, which is the entrance I used and hence didn't see them.0 -

That last six words is the key.
Single yellows ALWAYS have operating times signed. If there's no sign immediately with the lines, then that tells you that you MUST have missed seeing a wider-area sign.
So - you have a choice. Go and look for the wider-area signage, or take a gamble that you're not in an operating time.
You made the choice to take that gamble. You were wrong about the times and got a ticket. You lost the gamble.0
