Would love recipes for all ideas so far please. I will make a meal plan for next week, and see if it can be done. Any more ideas, would be fab!0

For dinner today, I made a Red lentil & squash dhal, and Cheese & chilli naans. Was delicious, and clean plates all round.
Plenty of leftovers too.. Am learning to cook, so pleased it turned out well! I made a spinach, red onion & tomato salad to eat with it too.
Recipe for dhal & naans on BBC good food website.0 -
Failing at this.. Trying to keep to a plan, though we just keep buying in easy cheap dinners. Really have to keep to a plan.0

Just had a quick read, and you sound as though you were getting the hang of it. Recipes on the BBC site where you can list some ingredients and it makes suggestions are good. As you learn to cook, it gets easier to know how to adjust to your tastes, and you develop some favourite recipes to do. Keep it simple to start with, you seemed to be doing so well, don't lose heart over some slip ups. Someone mentioned youtube, and that can be great for simple demonstrations of recipes. I always find it easier to watch someone prepare something the first time. Keeping a note on what everyone likes will help, too. the "A girl called Jack" blog has very price-sensitive recipes, it's a while since I used it, but she seems very able to work out how to do things on a really tight budget. Good luck.0

I don't think you are failing, I just think you need a bit more support to get you through the odd hurdle
Cooking isn't an exact science We could all have the same ingredients and come up with completely different dishes
I'm a great believer of following a recipe the best I can ( I will substitute ingredients if I don't have what's called for ) I'm not a chuck it in and see how we go type, that's too out of my comfort zone
How about you look in the fridge, see what needs to be used up right now and what's likely to be turning in a few days and let's come up with something to cook using those bits. I'm assuming you have most of the things on your list still?
This budgeting/healthy eating/meal planning malarkey has to be learned. Some of us have had a lifetime to learn, others are just now dipping their toes. Those with more experience love to help others along and share that experience so don't stop posting, keep coming back and don't ever think you are a failure0
