yet you are asking this employee/volunteer to subsidise your business (effectively lend your business his money) to help you get started. It sounds like what he is doing for you is pretty essential to the business, so I would expect to give away 10-15% of your business to him.
If your business plan works, you will be able to get funding and bank loans or investment in order to pay your employees. If no-one is willing to invest/lend you money after reviewing your business plan, then you probably need to review your business plan.0
