Mortgage application - No landlord reference?

Hello folks,

Could someone tell me which lenders do not seek a landlord reference from a FTB?

I am renting from a friend at the moment, on the electoral role, etc, but will shortly need to move out. I plan to crash with friends/rent their spare rooms over the next few months instead of arranging a new tenancy as I intend to buy soon.

Rather than formally changing my address every few weeks, I was going to keep using my current address for everything official. My current landlord/friend is cool with this, but I wouldn't want to put them in the position of having to say to a bank that I'm a current tenant when I'm not.

Which lenders are not interested in your landlord's details?

Thanks.

Why would a lender need a LL reference? They will find your credit file more objective.

Do you know regards to the process of applying for a mortgage?? Please read the MSE article on mortgages

  • Googling for 'Mortgage application landlord reference' or similar turns up various threads from here by people who have been asked to provide their landlord's details. It seems to me that any reference from a private landlord would be totally worthless, but some lenders apparently ask and I'd like to find out which with the help of people who have applied recently.

Accord asked for details of our landlord but didn't contact him in the end.

Nationwide haven't requested landlord details, but can see rent payments being made on our bank statements so that may be a factor?

Halifax didn't ask for a landlord reference either. This was a few months ago.

Lenders vary on this many do not need a reference but some do.

The biggest issue you will have is saying you are living somewhere and you have previously been paying rent and then it stops.

I would say honesty is the best policy.

A few times I have had lenders ask me about other addresses I knew nothign about and when asking the client I get ooooh yea well I do live there its my girlfriends place. Lenders have all sorts of ways of fidning out whether you are trying to pull a fast one or not.

agree with ACG - why not just stay put where you are instead of renting rooms from friends?
