People who have done or know about AAT Qualifications

Hi all,

I've really wanted to start my AAT quals before but did not due to being too busy. Through hard work I have finally worked my way up to working in finance but without qualifications in finance. My company does fund your training but I wont get that opportunity for about another year and dont want to wait.

Question 1:

What is the CHEAPEST way to get the Lv2 qualification completed? My plan is just to buy books (see q2) work through them, then sit exams at a centre.

Question 2:

I have some osborne books donated to me by lovely friend. But they 2011 edition books. Are they too out of date now?

Thats all i can think of, i want this qualification done before September so i can start level 3 under the current structure.

Thanks all

    Hi,

I have nearly finished Level 4, the syllabus was updated in 2013, so they may not be of any use.

The syllabus is being updated towards the end of this year again.

Apparently BPP books are good for AAT, these can be picked up on eBay relatively cheap.

Thanks, makes sense, thought they may be a bit too old. yeah it changes in sept i believe so i want to get started on level 3 before that happens as you have till late 2017 to complete it.

Ill check ebay now, and i just remember i have a couple friends who have JUST completed lv2 so I will ask them if they have their books, could buy it off them.

Thanks for that, ive seen you mention me not liking you a couple times now, not sure what happened in the past to make you think that, i can only assume i said something in a previous thread, ive totally forgotten about it and wasn't aware that i didnt like you till you told me i didnt like you!!

Ive had a disagreement with a few of the regulars here, cant remember who, what for, i dont hold grudges longer than a day.

That aside, thanks for the advice, what ill do for level 2 is study from books given to me by ex att level 3 students and sit the exams, i will get it all done for about £350 including exams. For level 3 i may do it through work but if i do, ill have to do it at a colleges pace which is too slow, i want level 3 done in less than a year. i want to complete level 2 before september so i can start level 3 under the current structure.

Answer to question 1: Self study and exams the cheapest way.

Answer to question 2: Level 2 is the very beginning of Accounting I don't think there has been such fundamental change that would change level 2. But if you want the latest then EBay or Amazon is your best bet, along with the AAT forums.

Good luck, the stuff you learn in AAT will come up in the final CIMA/ACCA exams so it's good stuff.

    Hi,

I'm in exactly the same position, only I'm wanting to do a career change and haven't done an accounts based job before.

It's been recommended to me that I teach myself level 2, but then when I feel confident move onto level 3 without taking the exams, seeing as they aren't required for the full qualification. It just saves on the level 2 exam fees and should mean you can register for level 3 by September (seeing as you could register for it today if you wanted and study levels 2/3 over 15 months.

I've also been recommended Osborne books and there seem to be a few sets on ebay.

I've found the AAT forums quite useful. There's a lot of discussion about self study and the different ways in which people have approached it.

    Good luck!
