Telling the creditors I am BR

I am not sure if I should post this as I seemed to stir up bother when I said I joked on the phone before! However here goes ...

All the creditors now know I have gone BR and were nice enough but one was a swine, she was from an indian call centre calling on behalf of ***** (deleted for legal reasons!), wanted my details and cc number - told her I didnt have them as I cut it up. That made her angry, she shouted at me "Why you do that" "you gotta pay"

So I thought ... "Right you b**d" ... "Ok" I said "would you like me to pay all the balance right now because I would love to pay you everything I owe".

PING

She is all friendly, "Oh yes that is very good" she says

I say " I would love to pay all of it at once right this second"

"Let me just get my paperwork a moment ..."

I then leave her hanging on for 20 minutes ... yes she IS still there!

Me - "Sorry to keep you waiting"

Her "No problem sir," (WOOO She called me Sir!!!)

Me - "I would like to pay all that I owe you straight away as I said ... but .. I have just looked at my paperwork and I had forgotten in the heat of the moment ... I went bankrupt this afternoon , the ref no is ***"

She explodes, "You you are bankrupt"

Me "Yes ... now go sort that one, and I remind you that if you now call again you are breaking the law and are liable to prosecution even if you are acting under your employers orders .. Goodbye"

PUTS PHONE DOWN - HARD

Oh ... bliss!!!!

No I don't regret winding her up .. she was a total rude and unhelpful person.

It's because these 'call-centres' are only trained as 'script readers' on a yes/no basis. Any deviation from the 'script' displayed on their screen, that requires a 'thought' input is beyond their comprehension.

  • You could have just said no I'm bankrupt and put the phone down as she wasn't worth the 20 minutes wasted.

I've only spoken to one creditor so far - managed to get my tuppence in about not being happy confirming my DoB over the phone since I didn't know for sure who they were! (I did really of course) he was really polite all the way through (even before he knew about the BR) and apologised for bothering me!
  • I found that all my creditors were exceptionally nice to me when I mentioned that I had declared myself bankrupt.

    But, great story :-)

  • We loved talking to the Creditors after we declared, most of them left us alone, but a few kept sending letters and ringing up from India..

I did have one company ring my mobile from a witheld number, the gentleman saying he was from 'A Bank' and asked for my details, I just replied that how could I know he was from that particluar company :) needless to say he got quite irate saying that he didn't care and just wanted my details. He did eventually tell me to ring a number, which of course, I never did :)
