Change in job role pay query.

Hello.

I recently was made a senior at my work place and as such received a small raise. Now some changes have been made in the company and they have removed the role of senior and instead introduced a team leader role instead unfortunately I was unsuccessful in becoming a team leader so have been effectively demoted. Now my pay has remained the same in the new contract despite other staff on this level are below me in pay. I've heard that the company tried to lower my pay with the new contracts but were unable to. I was wondering what the law on this is and if I should expect my pay to go down after a set period of time?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

I would expect them to leave well alone or have you mark time until lower grade catches up.

You say the raise was small, so you'll probably keep it for now but other staff will get raises over time until you're about level again

I agree most firms would just hold your pay until your back within grade. It might mean no pay rises for a while. If they want to force a lower pay rate on you they have to either make your position redundant and ask you if you wish to apply for the new job on a lower wage or give you 3 months notice in writing that they are changing your conditions of employment, enter into a consultation process and see if you resign or accept. Most employers will just leave it and let the other catch up.

Can you provide a link to this 3 moth notice period?

  • Thank you for your replies.

Yes they difference between my pay and others is small only 80p.

I only worry really as they have historically kept pay low and not raised it the pay for other staff is only minimum wage.
