Using Cashback for Work Bookings?

Options
Hi everyone was wondering if you could help me...the company I work for settle all my travel bills centrally through a corporate credit card. The company have told us to sign up for all memberships to gain points which we can use for personal use.

I've noticed that one of the hotel groups I frequently book through is now offering up to 8% cashback for making bookings through their site. This would work out for me as I have a corporate code so would still get the correct rate.

My question is.....

1) Is this ethical to do? (Earning money from staying in hotels that my company is paying for)

2) Could my company ever find out? (I don't think they would as the booking would be directly with the hotel)

I could earn close to £1,000 a year through cashback doing this.

If you really want it all to be above board, the best thing to do is either dont do it, or ask your compnay if it okay to do this, but ask someone who has the authority to say so.

I know someone who was sakcked from a supmarket because she was allowing her sister to get the employee discount from her shopping.

Stay honest and ask, better than worrying all the time.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

In my last job, if you provided a receipt where the points were claimed (tesco or nectar for example) the receipt would not be reimbursed, as you are deemed to have gained something off the back of the "company".

Their other reasoning was that you may not buy from the best value retailer in favour of the points you may receive.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

If your company expenses policy expressly states you can claim loyalty points or cashback then yes in terms of your employment it is ok to do so. Only your employer can confirm if they are ok with it.

However I believe any financial gain would be taxable. And this is probably why my previous employer expressly forbade people from claiming loyalty points or cashback on expenses claims.
