how to save game levels on ps4

Hi

sorry but I don't know how to do this and my son is asking.

basically, how do we save levels we have completed on his ps4? every time he turns the ps4 off at the mains and back on he has to start the game all over again and complete the levels hes already done?

I remember on the ps2 there was an auto save feature and the game was saved on a memory card.

is there a setting I can check? the games he has are fifa 16 and lego marvels superhero which is what hes playing at the moment .

Thanks

Some will be done automatically (unless someone has changed it in the settings), check the in game settings.

It might say to not turn it of whilst a certain logo is displayed. Depends on the game though, maybe say what the game/s are and maybe someone will advise further. I don't have a PS4 but I have an Xbox One and what Ive just posted is what I have to look out for.

Well Fifa 16 I save it manually (im sure its set to auto save)

no personal experience on these games or console, but in general the pamphlet that comes with the game should tell you how to save, You could also try looking on a site such as gamefaqs for hints, tips and complete walkthroughs.

    http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps4

For example for Lego Marvel Super Heroes one of the walkthroughs there contains the following.....

Q: Can I save in the middle of a Story Mission?

A: Yes! At several points throughout missions, there are things called "Save Switches", which will save your progress within the mission, allowing you to quit and return to that spot. The important thing to remember is that to return to that spot, you must resume the mission by going to its starting location in Manhattan

Hope you're using the PS button to exit the game/ shut down the PS4 properly before hitting the power button at the back! Most games will automatically save (display some kind of symbol on screen whilst doing so) at various 'checkpoints' throughout the game (start of a level) or have a 'quicksave' option on the start button

Which game is it? Sounds kinda odd that if you finish the level it's not autosaving, are you entirely sure that the game has sufficient time to save prior to the machine being shut down?

OP according to Google, Fifa 16 has an autosave feature, whilst the auto saving logo is displayed do not turn the console off.

Games tell you at the start if there's an auto save feature, usually the icon used will pop up with a message saying do not turn off the console when this is displayed. The feature may have been turned off though in the game settings so check if you're unsure, done games allow it to be turned off I believe.

Is there an option to save yourself on the game rather than rely on an auto save? And as had been said always make sure the machine is turned off properly.

Turning the PS4 off at the mains is not what people do

Turning the PS4 on and off from the PS4 controller is what people do

Games usually have an auto save function where a symbol often appears briefly when it is happening or you can manually save in the game menu screen usually accessed by pressing the start button on the controller. Ocassionally there maybe save stations within the game that you can use as and when needed to manually save. For example I believe the dead space games have this. The game should have told you how it saves progress early on. It may say how in the leaflet that comes with the game. Alternatively there will be a forum dedicated to the game somewhere, you can ask there.
Does it happen with all games? If yes then it must be a setting on the console. I haven't got a ps4 yet so don't know about that. You can access the full manual online though.
