HELP 11 Year old Debt

Hi
Hoping someone can help me please
I have received today a letter from DLC on behalf of Hillesden Securities Limited in regards to an outstanding debt, from 11 years ago!!
I have never received a letter before from them, they have never contacted me and this was paid off to my belief when I separated from my ex wife (if this is even the debt that we had when we were together)
I have been told that because the debt is old, and they have not had any contact with me, nor have I said this debt is mine as, (as far as I am concerned this isn't!) Then they cannot come to me for the money, there is no date from when this debt is from, only an reference number and a balance, and if my ex wife paid this, or said she did, as still unsure as to who the debt originates from as they have bought it from another company, I have no idea what it is for!!
Could anyone direct me to the letter template because it is "statue barred" and they by law have 6 years to be able to chase me, even though this was supposedly settled!! Is this correct?
Any advice would be great
Thankyou

If you wish to reply, the the letter in this link sounds the most appropriate.

If she has been paying it up until recently, then that could put a spanner in the works.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi
No, no-one has been paying it, it was paid off the ex wife claims if this is the debt that they are referring to as I have no idea, 11 years ago!!0 -
That is why I linked to letter that says you do not recognise the debt, not just a straight statute barred one.
If in doubt, give National Debtline a call to see what they thinkFree/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

The other option is a straight prove-it letter
