Help!

I am sure you have all heard this a million times before but I am taking the plunge and asking for HELP!! I think I have sunk to an all time low, I have read the website for the consumer counselling service and I think I really need there help, I'm worried about changing my bank account as Barclays are one of my creditors.. will I be able to open a new one if I have poor credit?

I am actually now worried to the point of being ill!! all advise greatfully received as I have no one to talk to this about

Hi pp - it will help if you tell us exactly what your problems are. Why not post a statement of affairs (soa) listing all your income, expenditure and debt, then we can see how we can help you.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • Hello peacheypie,

Well done for taking the first step in getting advice and help. There are plenty of people here who can help and support you.

There are two ways you can contact CCCS. You can use our online debt advice facility Debt Remedy to help you put together a budget and look at options for you. You can access this at www.cccs.co.uk or you can call to speak to someone on 0800 138 1111 and have an appointment with one of our counsellors. Either way, we look at your situation and advise you on the best way to deal with it. Given that you say you have no-one you can discuss this with you may benefit from talking to us.

With regards to your bank account: Everyone is entitled to a basic bank account and this is what you would be asking for. With a basic bank account you are not asking the new bank to provide you with credit facilities and your current bank cannot stop you setting up a new account with someone else. Have a look at http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf for information on basic bank accounts. It may take a bit of shopping around but it is worth doing as it puts you back in control of where your money goes, and not the bank.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Read more information on the CCCS and what it does in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article.

CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide to our clients. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.
  • Thanks everyone I will contact the CCCs, I will let you know how I get on x
