  • Do you actually need curtains? Would voile do, for privacy?

I assume that they help with insulation ... ANd anyway, I do have a tendency to wander around with no clothes on! But I will admit that on any window where it isn't needed, I would much rather do without. In our last house we owned (ah, NZ, quarter acre, darkness at night, stars until the world's end) we rarely closed any curtains. But they still add to the look of the room.

PS, if we were completely broke, that's exactly what we'd do. This is more about not wanting to break into the house deposit fund. So please don't think that I'm poo-pooing your point, cos it's absolutely spot on.

BTW, you're a great bunch of people/women (I suspect women, but could be wrong). I think I might hang around here a bit more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Sheets are the simple and cheap answer. Choose a colour you like and can live with. Sew two (doubles perhaps) together and hang. When you move on, take them down, unpick and return to use as bed sheets.

I agree with paddy's mum. I would have a trawl round the charity shops. They often have both sheets and curtains.

Sheets can be used as linings for curtains.

I had the same problem as you trying to find massive curtains for cheap. In the end I found some on amazon for about £50. Its not mega cheap but I am sure you have shopped around and know other places you are looking at over £100 for big enough curtains!! The ones I bought were from the Solomon range.

    For example: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Solomon-Lined-Pencil-Pleat-Curtains/dp/B000ESMD6W/ref=sr_1_55/026-7141442-1370013?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1188998653&sr=1-55

    Just a thought
Our dream has come true... :D
  • I came across a website that is from a local Yorkshire company.

The prices are soooo cheap, they are practically giving things away.

Also, they have 2 special offers on at the moment. Free delivery on orders over £100 and £5 off £50 - both are combineable.

Sometimes, you find something that you think is so cheap it must be rubbish but their customer service and speed of delivery was excellent.
