Letter from Advantis collections

SO after sorting out my lowell debts to a degree im now tackling a debt with a company called Advantis in relation to a Yorkshire water services bill for £1,311.81!!!

The letter starts with ' Despite our previous letter requestig you contact us with regards the outstanding county court judgement obtained against you by our client this matter is still unresolved.

What is the best way to go forward with this im assuming this is for a previous property that i lived at as my current bill is upto date I didnt attend any court dates and to be honest I have no idea about this one.

What is the best way forward without messing up any possible statute barred claims etc a

Won't become statue barred as a CCJ has been registered against you.
Look on your credit file it will tell you the date the CCJ was registered.

You may have to make an arrangement to pay on this one or risk further action from the creditor such as "an attachment of earnings order" or bayliffs !!!

    Hi there,

In order to vary a CCJ you will need to fill in an N245 form, this can cost up to £50. You can use this form to set up an instalment plan to prevent the creditor using court enforcement as mentioned above. We do have a factsheet about this that may help you.

Do you know when the judgement was obtained? Did you receive the original court papers? Is there any dispute on the balance owed? If there is a dispute then you may be able to challenge the judgement even at this stage, but you may need more detailed advice from one of the free debt agencies for that.

    Hi there

Where has this letter been sent to - a previous address, your family home for example? If you are sofa surfing at present, I assume the creditor cannot know your precise location.

As far as I am aware, Advantis are simply a debt collection agency, not enforcement agents who act on court warrants. Either way, if you (or anyone who lives at the address where this letter was sent) receive any visits from anyone collecting this debt, do not let them in. They have no powers whatsoever to force entry to collect this sort of debt.

If you own a vehicle and are expecting a visit from any enforcement agents, you should park it a safe distance away from wherever you are staying.

I don't think there's any need for you to panic, nor to fill in any forms just yet, but I do think you would be wise to contact one of the debt charities for more detailed advice as it's difficult to offer that here without knowing too much about you.

If you are in the process of applying for benefits and are sofa-surfing then try contacting a debt charity. They may well advise a DRO. This has a cost, but this will wipe out the debt if the creditor agrees.
