You can usually get it in Indian or Pakistani shops. They call is fatakdi powder.

I used to use an alum block on my skin, as an acne-ridden teen. Completely useless of course!

I used to use Alum when using natural dyes for fabric when I was studying at Uni. I used to get mine from a Chinese health shop (the medical types rather than food types of shops), I'm not sure where it originates from but this is where I was able to pick it up.
