I used to list books on GreenMetropolis and sold several on that site. But now I'm having another clearout, I've realised that GreenMetropolis no longer exists :-( I know that I could use Amazon or Ebay .....are either of these good for selling books - or is there a better one, where I can list the books I have for sale and just see if they sell?
Thanks for any help x

Ebay would probably be your best bet, you'd be surprised at some of the prices. Amazon is also good but seems more competitive for used books.
I'd say these two would give the most exposure, plus fees won't be that much.0 -
`If they are sought after books I would recommend Shpock the free boot sale app for android and Iphone.
I sold a few Land rover books on their for £20, i don't think I would have made £20 cash in my pocket had i put them on eBay and had to deal with postage and fees
if you are on Facebook it may be worth joining a few Facebook sales sites, I've wrote a short thread on tips for selling on Facebook sites which can be found herehttps://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5232467

It depends on what you're selling. Some books will have value and ebay and Amazon are great for them.
A large percentage of books are, sadly, worthless. It's really hard to get rid of books now and even ones that are worth a couple of quid they're not always worth selling online because after fees and postage, assuming they do sell, you're lucky to be getting a few pence. In some cases it'll be a loss due to the size/weight of the book.
You have the option of Facebook, Gumtree, a carboot or local newspaper/magazine ads. You could try Shpock as mentioned above, but I've never used it so can't say how how likely it is you'll sell anything through it.
There are sites which buy books. However, you may find they won't take a lot of books that you've got and even if they do they'll give you very little for them. You then have the hassle of packaging them, sending them off and hoping that they receive all the books and don't claim any are missing or in worse condition that you stated. You can find the sites which take books through here and what people think of them and their experiences. Zapper, Ziffit, FatBrain etc.I'd say these two would give the most exposure, plus fees won't be that much.
That depends on what you class as "that much". Ebay/Paypal is 13.4% of the total plus 20p. Amazon is more.
Ebay does have offers sometimes but what that offer is and who is invited varies greatly.
You also have postage on top of the fees.
It's £2.85 to send a small parcel weighing 101-500g by 2nd class. Even as a large letter weighing 101-250g it's £1.20 2nd class.
If you have a book worth £1 it's unlikely you'll be able to sell it for £2.20, nevermind £3.85 if it would have to be sent as a parcel and that's without taking the fees into consideration.
Overall, ebay and Amazon fees aren't so bad. Auction house fees, for example, are worse or you could pay £10 for a carboot and not get your money back. However, due to the value of a lot of books, the cost of postage and the fact that the sites take a percentage of the tota,l the fees can mean you don't make (barely) any profit. The fees can make a big difference in whether something is worth selling or not.0 -
If you have a smartphone I would recommend downloading the free 'webuybooks.co.uk' app. You scan the ISBN code and it will tell you how much they will buy your book for!
There are a lot of books they won't buy but I was surprised, there were books I scanned which I thought they would never touch which they said they would pay for so its worth scanning all your books to find outDocumenting my journey from full time support worker to full time eBay reseller0 -
Hi there
Have a look at fatbrain - do not pay much, but will take almost any book...

I always try it on Amazon first, esp if it's a textbook or otherwise valuable. You can research 2nd hand prices on there and eBay. If you need a quick sale, I use webuybooks.co.uk of course, it has to be something they want to take. However you'll get guaranteed cash quickly, though of course less than you could get selling it yourself. But if you do Amazon/ eBay etc you have to wait for the sale. WBB nearly always has 10% codes floating around on Facebook or Twitter, so make sure you use one to boost it.Minimalist
