I'm porting a mortgage over as part of moving house, I have to pay when I sell but have 6 months to buy somewhere else and finish the port to get a refund. It all depends on the t's and c's for each mortgage though, this isn't something nationwide have done to you, this is the same for any fixed type mortgage deal.MFW OP's 2017 #101 £829.32/£5000

The terms of my Nationwide mortgage are that I had to sell and buy on the same day or pay the ERC, so I did't go with the conversion property that couldn't guarantee being ready on the day. In fact, that property slipped by months, not weeks, and I'm cosy in my new home having ported the mortgage to a same day sale/completion property. I had a divorce to contend with at the time, too, with changing the mortgage into my name only and moving to a new city. Fun, fun, fun!
I've been with the Nationwide for many years, too - but signed up to these Ts & Cs, my choice.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0
