I reckon the only people who think it's a con never bothered to read the white paper and have based their "understanding" on what they read in the tabloids. Not that the quality papers did a much better job!
Unfortunately the people that think it is a con were led down the garden path in the first place. Many thought with 35 qualifying years they would get more pension etc etc.
So, while nobody is losing out, there are many with the 'perception' that they are losing out ..... perception is everything.
If you really think everyone is going to read the White Paper to garner the correct info then you are way beyond cloud cuckoo ....
They have had several attempts at simplifying the pension estimates so people could understand it ..... what chance them understanding gov white paper ....0 -

By who? The white paper, complete with worked examples and even pictures, came out on the same day as the budget announcement. I was on holiday but downloaded and read it that day, and it's been implemented exactly as described. Many thought with 35 qualifying years they would get more pension etc etc.
On what did they base this? The available information was clear that there were transitional arrangements and that this included contracted out deductions (the Rebate Derived Amount.)If you really think everyone is going to read the White Paper to garner the correct info then you are way beyond cloud cuckoo ....
I don't expect everyone to read it, but I would like those who haven't bothered to stop whining that they are "confused" or that "it's a con".I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

It doesn't help though when the BBC ran a headline this week in the radio news which was little more than 'Everyone who retires from today will be entitled to the new state pension of 155.65 pw'. Online they go into proper detail, but someone just hearing their short headline would get completely the wrong impression.0

See.... that's where you make your mistake. Generally people dont download white papers and read them while on holiday.
Equally, as I said, if they have had so much difficulty getting the pension estimate understandable for the majority, then what chance a green paper. The estimates are not examples, they are these peoples actual circumstances. If they can't get that, they ain't gonna get examples in a white paper.
Not only that, you might consider that those who request estimates are a bit more on the ball than the remainder .... so those on the ball were not able to fathom out their pension estimates .... what chance those lazy sods on holiday who don't pull down the paper on the day it was released .....
The point is you have to work with the understanding of the majority ... if you are a team leader, you are only an effective team leader if you can recognise the strengths and weaknesses of team members and the team collectively. You then delegate accordingly .... otherwise you ain't gonna get done what you thought you would.
It is not necessarily to do with intellect ..... though there are those who will beef themselves up to feel superior on that basis ......get with it bro!!!0 -
The press get most things wrong, which is why you need to use primary sources whenever possible, and definitely for the important stuff such as pensions.
The personal savings allowance and starting rate have also been misreported left right and centre.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

That's fine as long as they remedy this after they return home.If they can't get that, they ain't gonna get examples in a white paper.
Certainly not if they don't even bother to read it, which is usually the case.you are only an effective team leader if you can recognise the strengths and weaknesses of team members
And then fire the weak ones.
If someone reads the white paper (or even the summary) and then has questions, then I will patiently work with them to explain things. I find myself doing this a right lot at work!
If someone moans on about how they are confused, and won't look at a short summary when I send them a link, then frankly I can't be bothered. Why should I waste my time on someone who refuses to invest even a few minutes of their own?I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I wish to buy extra pension years and have obtained a pension statement online which tells me which years I can buy and how much they cost.
Unfortunately this is where all help seems to stop.
There is no link that allows you to pay online.
There is no link that allows you to contact anyone for an official statement sent to your email or otherwise.
Basically nowhere says how you pay.
There is a link that sends you in a full circle and you go round and round never finding out how and who to pay.
Surely in this day an age there should be a way of paying online!
The only other option seems to be to ring the Future Pension Centre which is a chargeable phone number.
Is telephoning really the only option I have or have I missed a hidden link?
Hope someone can help0 -

The government has no right to assume that everybody has access to the internet or the ability to understand the complexities of the relationship between state pension and occupational pensions, particularly when there have been so many changes over the years.
The government has just spent millions in taxpayers' money sending a "Brexit" leaflet to every household in the UK - the money might have been better spent on giving everybody in the UK clear and unambiguous information about their personal pension situation.0 -
Easiest is Direct Debit as you have to contact them for other methods.

I do think that everyone should be sent a paper record of their foundation amount, along with both old and new calculations.
I'm not sure how many would read it but at least they'd have been sent it!I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
