If it were not for your income would you otherwise be eligible for ESA ?

I would be - if I didn't work part time (due to necessity) and have savings of over £17,500 !!
Apart from that - yes I would be eligible

So even though I am not entitled to claim ESA - Just because I am disabled and had I not had "savings" and also have too large an income - and also would not be entitled to claim ESA (due to the lack of recent NI contributions) - I am still entitled to claim NI Credits ???

Ask the experts on the Benefits Board?

I asked the JobCentre and received a promising reply :
"You may need to make an application for Jobseekers Allowance or Universal Credit to be able to receive credits even if you do not receive the full benefit you have applied for but there are certain entitlement conditions."
But what does this actually mean ?
Surely - if I am not claiming JSA / ESA / UC for reasons that my savings are too high to allow me to claim ESA and my income is too high to claim ESA - then I will not be able to get my NI made up ?
I guess I am asking what can I do to get my NI paid ?

When Mr S and I retired from the RAF we needed 44 years (him) and 39 years (me) NI in order to qualify for the full basic State pension. We knew that we wouldn't get JSA as we both had our RAF pensions and were over the £6K savings limit - but the RAF resettlement advice was to 'sign on' so we wouldn't lose a full year of NI.

What a faff. I hope for your sake that things have changed now, but in our time there was no specific claim form for NI only - just the JSA claim form. We filled out the forms as requested, only to get letters saying 'your application for JSA (huh!) has been carefully considered, but has not been approved because (wait for it...) according to Government guidelines, you have too much money to live on'.

We then had to prove that we were actively seeking employment in order to qualify for NI contributions.

Luckily, it was only for a couple of months.

I am missing out on 8 years NI contributions and have discovered that I may be entitled to claim them from DWP
I see https://www.gov.uk/national-insurance-credits/eligibility says "You!!!8217;re not on Employment and Support Allowance but you satisfy the conditions for it"
But selecting the highlighted word - does not tell me what the conditions are.....
Anyone offer me any help ??

    Thanks

This is really now a benefits query rather than a pension one, so it may well be worth posting over on the Benefits board or the disability one.
