As a male over female State Pension age, you're presumably on Pension Credit? There will naturally be some kind of adjustment as your income will be going up, but it will depend on your circumstances. Perhaps better to ask on the benefits board?

Can anyone clarify things for me, please?

I am female, aged 57, with a SPA of 66, which will be in December 2024.

I have looked online, and have 35 years of NI contributions as of April 2016.

My predicted pension is £155.72, and my COPE amount is £54.76. I assume that this means that I will get a nSP of £100.89?

I hope to retire in the next year or two. If I do this, and continue to make NI contributions, will I be able to increase the nSP, or is this the most I can get?

My husband retired last year, aged 60, and was told that he didn't need to continue to pay NI contributions. Has he been misinformed? He will have around 42 years of contributions, about half of which will have been contracted out. I don't know his predicted pension; but assume it will be slightly higher than mine, as I have always been CO.

Any advice for either of us would be gratefully received, thanks :).

Oh, really? I thought that the COPE would be paid as part of my occupational pension. Great news if not, though!

I don't know why they mention the COPE amount if it has no bearing on the prediction - no wonder people get confused.

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.

For yourself you need to look at the current amount under "Breakdown" which gives the starting amount at April 2016. The top figure is what you can achieve, not necessarily what you currently have. This can be added to at £4.45 per additional year contributed until you reach the maximum £155.65. If already above that figure then it cannot be added to.

For your husband, the information he was given was correct before April 2016 but has now changed. He needs to get his own forecast and calculate the figures.

The COPE is paid as part of your occupational pension but you need to look at how your SP figure is calculated, not taking one figure in isolation.

    It says
    Breakdown:
Estimate based on your NI contributions to 5 April 2016 £125.72

Forecast if you contribute another 7 years before 5 April 2024 £155.65

and following the hyperlink tell me that the COPE amount is £54.76.

Then the underlined is the figure you would get if you never paid anymore N.I. but you could add £4+ each year from now.Your forecast should then then tell you how many more years you need to get the full state pension.(7 more years N.I.)

P.S. your figure of £155.72 was missleading as i presumed you had more than the maximum already
