You have no idea whether the OP is better than any of the people you describe - neither you nor I know the OP or their proclivities. I haven't made any comments on such matters. But I do happen to think that getting the best people into the jobs is important and the OP saying what people want to hear is not achieving that. If the OP genuinely wants to do such work, they would have come up with their burning desire sooner than page two of the thread, and long before everyone had already told them that that was the only reason to get into this line of work. There are many careers to invest in, but the only reason to do so is to want the work, not just wanting the money. Otherwise they may as well burn the money, because they will end up doing something they hate just for the money. The OP clearly has no burning ambition to do anything in particular, and that is not a place to start from. As suggested earlier, careers advice might be more appropriate.

Sadly for you it's irrelevant if he currently has the passion or not; if he goes along for the interview and navigates successfully through a series of pertinent questions, he is a good as the next guy who does the same. The pay is low - the hirer knows that, and for that I don't realistically think they are expecting blue sky thinking child experts. Sure, at the moment he's curious about what the role will actually be like, but for all we know he might actually thrive in the role - something that couldn't be known until he hits the ground running.

I also think you should back off; you are coming across as excessive to the point of embarrassment. Re-read your posts again and you'll see. It's just a bit of guidance, not a showcase of overbearance.

OP should try it. The real acid test is if he will stay.

Sadly for the children, I'd've said.

I have a QCF Level 2 in Retail Skills. It is a work based qualification - I got it by first volunteering at a charity shop, I was then offered the chance to do the qualification - so I thought why not it could look good on my C.V.

Some qualifications you have to be working in that environment first whether paid or voluntary.

I currently volunteer at a Nursery and I want to either be a Teaching Assistant or Early Years Educator eventually. The Teaching Assistant course requires two days on placement and about 4 hours at college. The Early Years Educator course requires 1 day on placement and two days at college, not sure whether its full two full days. With the Teaching Assistant course applicants are required to have at least 1 years relevant experience. Not sure if the same applies for the Early Years Educator course.

If you really want to work with children I suggest that you volunteer at a school or nursery. Or perhaps as you mentioned earlier teaching kids football or something similar. It will help you decide if you really do want to work with kids and also when applying for courses it will certainly help even if previous experience isn't required.
  • I trained and worked for a while as a teacher, and I can tell you with no hesitation that if I was currently offered two jobs, one working with children and one loading lorries, I'd say "Where are the lorries?"

Have you read the thread at all?

There is no pay and there is no role. He's thinking about doing a course, which he would have to pay for. That's all.
  • I can honestly say unless you're committed dont do the course. Working with children is exhausting and takes a lot of you, it's hard to leave at work.
