Replacement Cushions. Advice please...

Options
I've just realised that the' flat' cushions that I've been complaining about are years old and some of them are really tatty when I've taken them out of the covers! They seem to be filled with hollofill and covered in a a polyprop-type cover just like pillows. I'm wondering if there's anything can be done to 'replump' them? (I'm ashamed to say that some of them look like they wouldn't survive a trip through the washing machine!) or should I just treat myself to some nice new ones? I'm thinking of decent fillings like feather and down that I can plump properly, with proper, cotton covers? Any recommendations would be gratefully received.
(Spare quilts, pillows and cushions seem to build up in our house as I feel vaguely uncomfortable about just sticking them in the bin, so any recycling advice would be helpful too.)

I can recommend the Ikea feather cushion pads, like this
    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80300518/
Do be aware of the size though, as they were larger than the ones I had previously, so needed to buy covers too.

Check with homeless shelters or animal shelters regarding bedding and pillows which you are getting rid of, am sure they would be very grateful.

I agree with pigpen - double the flat ones up, then I'd shove a pillow into any other covers and see how it looks.
If you do buy feather pads remember they kick out a bit of dust when you plump them up!

this is something that happens eventually, and I have found that our local animal charity are happy for things suitable for bedding. I do wash them first. I think a visit to IKEA might be in my future. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry, I must admit that I hadn't done any research and was being influenced by the price of cushions that I'd seen in stores at between £16 and £20. My MSE gene wouldn't allow me to buy 5 of those! I've just looked at Wilkos and Ikea and that is a lot more do-able :) Thanks Anne-Marie :)
I think Spring cleaning fever has kicked in and I've discovered that I have far too many pillows and quilts as I just seem to store them when I buy new ones. I washed a couple of pillows yesterday and when they are dry I'm going to try cutting them in half to see what I can do with them. (I have stuffed two old cushions into one cover and it actually seems too fat so maybe they weren't as flat as I thought!) Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy or make nice, new covers ;)
Thanks for all of the ideas though, it's really got me thinking what I can do with the old stuff... maybe window quilts for the winter, or curtain linings? Now I'm wandering off into the old quilt uses. I suppose that's a whole new thread!

I find The Range is quite good for cushion pads too.

I've enjoyed making some new covers, very therapeutic.
