Hopefully can spend 0 tomorrow too which will be 5 days in a row! Will definitely need to go food shopping at some point though...LBM - 30/3/16 - Someone save me from myself!!

Not been on in ages but just had to share something and ask if anyone knows... there was an attempted burglary on my house a few months ago and the person has now been caught. Presuming they get found guilty am I likely to recoup any of the cost as I didn!!!8217;t have any home insurance at the time?LBM - 30/3/16 - Someone save me from myself!!

Sorry to hear this re burglary. It's a horrible feeling that someone has been rummaging in your home but sounds like no injuries which is good.
Unfortunately if they are convicted this doesn't mean you can recoup the costs. The conviction is a criminal matter to "punish" them in the hope (?) they won't do it again.
You would have to sue the burglar in the Civil Court to get compensation from them for the loss they caused. However, two problems....the cost to you of taking them to court (and potentially losing) and the chances of the burglar having any money to pay you the compensation and your costs.
Not nice, but I'd suggest you put this down as a horrid experience and move on more positively. You've learned the hard way the value of contents insurance- if you had it you would be able to claim for the loss (minus excesses). Please go and search for affordable contents insurance and build it into your budget. Your mortgage will also have a clause requiring building insurance- you may already have this but if not, get it.
