Currys discount vouchers?

My friend has had a cheque for £700 which can only be used instore in Dixons or Currys. He wants to buy a TV but was told the model he wants is only available online. As the cheque states it can only be used instore where does that leave him? They seem adamant that they can't order the TV for store pick up as they don't have any in stock??
