moving to a none - recycle area

Good afternoon all

I am just about to move to the district council of Powys (wales)

They currently do not offer any kind of recycling scheme, but I want to continue with my recycling.

I was wondering if i could approach shropshire council who do offer recycling and obtain some bins from them? For cans etc.

I know argos do some bins for £30 but I would rather get them free as I will be going out of my way to the local centre to recycle these so find it a bit unfair to have to pay for the bins then use my own petrol to drop the stuff off.

Or do the councils offer anything towards the cost of the bins for those who dont have a scheme?

I know it sounds like i am penny pinching but I want to recycle.

Thanks in Advance

Not being funny but what do you want expensive plastic boxes for?

Just keep the tins/glass in old carrier bags or carboard boxes then take them down to the supermarket/recycling centre etc every so often (when you're passing)

Because cardboad boxes would get wet......

We dont have any outside storage areas so cardboard boxes etc are out of the question.

Where we are moving to they dont even have wheelie bins - Powys council for you.

We currently have a small plastic box for bottles etc in our kitchen and we cant recycle much as we dont have the room in our kitchen for various boxes and bags lying arounf full of recycling.

So stacked boxes would be ideal realistically

Could I quote from the Powys Council website !

"This section of the website is about recycling. We currently recycle about 19.62% of all waste produced (and compost another 15.68%) in the County. We do this in a number of ways. We provide 70 "bring sites" and a further 47 individual "bring banks" (normally paper). We operate a door-to-door recycling collection scheme to approximately 35,600 households. Powys County Council also provides a door-to-door collection for commercial waste in Llandrindod Wells, Newtown, Welshpool, Rhayader, Knighton and Machynlleth, Brecon, Builth Wells, Llanwrtyd Wells, Crickhowell, Hay-on-Wye, Talgarth, Sennybridge, Llanidloes and Presteigne. There are also six large Waste and Recycling Centres within Powys.

    Happy recycling!"

We are moving to llanymynech - I have been looking at that website past few days and they dont cover recycling house to house where we are moving to. They have a small recycling bins locally but dont offer that much.

    Powys council stretches quite far.....

especially considering there arent really any major roads

The nearest town to where we will be moving is Welshpool - 10 miles away. We currently live in Oswestry (shropshire) 6 miles away. So it would be better for us to use shropshires recycling facilities.

So other towns might have a very good recycling scheme under powys council but Llanymynech doesnt I'm afraid.

We also discussed this with the current owners and what they do.

As I said before they dont have wheelie bins either. Its still bin bags outside your door....

  • I have occasionally seen wooden crates around, I think maybe they are used for fruit/veg. (Though I'm not sure how easy these would be to find as most fruit/veg seems to come in cardboard boxes.) Or you could make your own wooden boxes with pallets, should be able to find some free ones.

    :A
I want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.
