I didn't actually read the article myself but apparently there was a news item in the Times this week (Mon Tues or Wed?) about a university researcher who'd established an effective method for preventing blisters just using surgical tape.
Without having read the detail I'm not sure if that's obvious or not...

In terms of prevention try proper running socks as suggested above, or try two pairs with the inner ones made of a wicking material like Coolmax. Dry feet are less likely to blister. I've also heard of people using talc/foot powder or Vaseline at the blister points.0
