I don't think I want to do this anymore. Stepchange sent a booklet I have no looked at it. I think the DRO is step too far which I'm too young for
Can I approach the companies with the temporary payment arrangement?
Surely those cannot be my only two options

Hello OriolaW. Thought I'd stop by with a bit of advice about your account with us. Hope it helps.
We can certainly look at a payment arrangement. A Monthly Direct Debit will let you cover ongoing usage and spread the arrears over a more manageable period. There are also lower daily standing charges for paying this way. Saves about £35 per fuel per year. If this is of interest, you'll need to talk to us and we'll be happy to look at setting something up.
Thank you for the payment you've made but if this isn't part of an agreed arrangement, I'm afraid it won't stop us chasing an outstanding balance. If this is the case and you don't want a Monthly Direct Debit, we've a specialist team who'll be able to discuss other options. This is our Credit Operations team.
One option they might offer is a prepayment meter. This is where you buy energy in advance from retail outlets. It also lets us put outstanding balances on the meter to be collected at an agreed rate each week. This lets us spread the amount owing over a longer period than other arrangements. Might help although it will limit the number of tariffs available to you. You'll need a new meter and there's no charge for this.
Have a look, too, at the trust funds Laura at the National Debtline mentions. The E.ON Energy Fund has been set up to help customers struggling with their energy bills. There are more details on our website including an application form. Also, help might be available from other third party trust funds like those through some water companies. Depending on where you live, several UK water companies offer support to cover essential bills like utilities. Have a chat to your water supplier. See if they do this.
Going forward, there might be other areas where we can help you save money by saving energy. Doesn't help with the immediate situation but could be good for the future. Have you heard about the Energy Company Obligation (ECO)? This is a Government led scheme that aims to cut usage by providing help with energy saving stuff like loft and cavity wall insulation. There are more details on our website. Also on our website are lots of ideas to help cut back on usage. When you've a minute, check out the 'Saving Energy' pages.
Hope this is of interest OriolaW and good luck sorting something out.
