Second application after a successful first?

Hi, I have my agreement in principal from The Coventry but the rate we initially applied for isn't available, there's a better one now at HSBC, will a second application still be damaging even through the initial one was successful?
Any advice on how to navigate this will be much appreciated, thanks.

If you have a clean credit history and fit the affordability and don't mind doing all the legwork, don't see why not. HSBC is direct only and don't deal with brokers.
Just a note AIP are not worth the paper they are written on, it's the mortgage offer that matters. I never got one until my broker put my mortgage application in."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Accepted or not, it's the footprint on your credit file which is the issue.
A couple of searches on an average case wouldn't make much difference. A couple on a borderline case could tip it from accept to decline.
All you can hope is the rest of your application data keeps your overall "acceptability" high enough.I am a mortgage broker.
