Hi, I think I'm in the wrong place but am looking for some advice about funding nursing care provision - please could someone point me in the right direction as I find these forums really helpful but can't see a category about this particular issue and am getting really confused looking online. Thanks for any help

Age concern have a lot of information on their web site http://www.ageuk.org.uk/home-and-care/
Are you looking at residential care or care at home?0 -
Thanks, we don't know yet - we're awaiting assessment (we're actually still waiting for some kind of diagnosis!) it's for my grandmother but I'm her next of kin. Trying to get as much info together as possible (she's in hospital at the moment) so trying to be prepared as much as we can for her discharge in order to make the best decision with her about her care needs. Problem is no one will give us advice until we have a diagnosis which I understand but would like to be a bit more knowledgeable all the same as don't want to end up with her being discharged and us being clueless at the time!0

Another thing you could do is google for Immediate Needs Annuity.Free the dunston one next time too.0

So are social services involved yet? Depending on hey needs these may be met by NHS if continuing medical care is required - the NHS are supposed to fund this but it tends to be difficult to access. If she just needs washing, dressing and mobility care then social services will provide this but funding is dependent on a means test.
Good luck.0 -
Is she mentally capable of agreeing to give you Lasting Power of Attorney?
If so, this could be worth considering / discussing0 -
Thanks for all your comments. Yes, I have lasting power of autorney. Social services aren't involved yet as they're still trying various antibiotics etc. Have confirmed degenerative brain disease but also a few other illnesses they're trying to treat. Have found info on the nhs continuing care package but don't know if she'll quality0

They will get involved when it comes to discharge planning which will not happen until your GM has been classed as clinically fit for discharge. I am going through exactly the same thing with my mother at the moment and had a meeting with the social worker assigned to her on Monday.0
