UK Pension in Turkey

Options
First sorry, this may be a duplicate, search does not work on my phone.

My recently widdowed step-mother needs to txfr over deceased hubby's contributions to make a meaningful pension, currently she gets 8 a week.

Problems are, current pension goes to husbands uk account, she has no uk account.

How complex or expensive will it be to get uk to pay to Turkish account.

(i did a post about mechanics of setting up ex-pat uk account separately)

  • I tried ringing them before dad died, it seemed a little beyond them.

This is a little difficult to believe as this is the office that deals with the payment of UK pensions to those who have retired abroad!

Is this a State Pension you are talking about or a personal / occupational pension?

The international pension centre you were linked to above is the place for all State Pension overseas queries but what you are asking is not at all clear from your post. They can certainly make payments to a Turkish bank account.

    The OP said
txfr over deceased hubby's contributions to make a meaningful pension, currently she gets 8 a week.

which made me think that the reference must be to the widow using the deceased's NI record to improve her state pension.

As you say, if the OP is referring to the deceased's occupational pension then the widow needs to contact the administrators to advise them of the death of her spouse and request payment to her bank account.

In principle if she can supply the sort code etc of her bank account in Turkey, there seems no reason why the Administrators cannot make the payment as requested.

Husband's bank account should have been frozen from the date of death.

Have the bank and the pension payer been notified of his death?

Yes I meant state, this is complicated by them just moving to Turkey and not telling pension agency.

He only died Saturday so no notifications.

If there is some form I can obtain Tuesday for here to fill out while I am over for the funeral that would be good.

Many thanks for all the replies.

It is looking up, I called the IPC before dad died to see how complex it would be, I must have got them on a bad day, they could not even decide which department I may need to talk too?

Today I got a lady who knew what she was doing, answered all questions, told me what bits of information I needed - easy.

In fact surprisingly easy, I imagined I would need to get translated notarized death certs and so on, but they seemed happy with verbal notification.
