I know it's not technically a TV package, but wondered if anyone had it.
My brother who's moving out at the end of April is taking his Sky package with him and I'm just trying to figure out what I "need" when he goes.
Me. Not fussed about TV. I like it, don't get me wrong, but perfectly happy with BBC and ITV. Catchup is great, but can always get this off my laptop right?
My kids. The channels they mainly watch is Disney Junior and Nick Junior and they like the recordable aspect and watch the same cartoons over and over and over and over and ... you get the gist.
So I was wondering if I dared just stick with Freeview around the house on the various TVs (kitchen and front room and my bedroom at the mo) and let them have this new Disney app which is £9.99 after a free month.

I'd love to have Disney Life. The content looks fantastic but what put me off is the lack of devices it works on. I have a Roku and an iPad. It'll work fine on the iPad but isn't compatible with Roku. It's not worth it to me if I can only watch it on a tiny iPad screen. I know chromecast is an option but I don't have one, and don't really want one for anything else, so for now I'll wait and see if they increase the compatibility to more devices.
Your kids might not mind though. I imagine it would be a nice distraction for them after losing the Sky package.0 -
Your best bet, price wise, would probably be a Now TV box - I think Argos were selling them at £20 with some free months as well - the free months are worth more than the cost of the box.
You need to create a Now TV account, which is easy to set up. Far as I know, the content in the entertainment package includes the Disney Channel - but worth double checking as I don't have young kids anymore so don't watch it. Once you've bought your Now TV box and used any free passes that come with it, you would pay £6.99 a month to keep the entertainment package. There is also a movie package £9.99 p/m ish) and a sports package (£32 ish) if you like that sort of thing. For the box and monthly subscription for entertainment, you'd be paying less than subscribing to Disney over 12 months.
There's no other cost. It works the same way as Netflix and Amazon, i.e. cancel any time, except you can watch some channels live. I use it because I don't have a Sky dish. I'd recommend looking into it. They've started doing longer term passes as well which work out cheaper in the longer run. I'm not a Sky rep by the way, I just think Now TV is a good product - you would need to connect the box to the internet and need a decent internet connection to stream content.
If you have a smart TV or Blu-ray player, then it may have Now TV pre-installed so no need for a separate box. The box itself might be worth having even if you don't subscribe, as it comes with I-player and other catch up services built in - turns your TV into a smart TV.0 -
Thanks very much for your answers.
I will definitely look up Now TV and see if it has Disney. Agree with poster who says iPads may be too small to watch it on all the time.
I am now thinking of going for Sky with the 30% off, but am interested in Now TV. Do you need a working aerial to watch it as I'm not sure we have one at our house?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

I can see that it has some Disney and Nick programmes, but does it have the actual channels?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

No you don't. Now TV is received though your broadband.0 -
I mostly watch catch up or box sets on Now TV - most of the programmes that are broadcast on the channels are available for 28 days after broadcast. You can watch the channels live. My Now TV is through my TV which has a cable to the broadband router, but it can be wireless - not sure if the box is wireless or has to be plugged in, but, as mije says, you don't need an aerial for it - its all through the broadband connection - hence you need a decent broadband speed.0
