Thank you for these replies. I always rely on MSE forums as people are so helpful. She will ask HR on Tuesday. I can see that if she can increase her personal contributions into the Group Personal Pension that would be the best option and I will let you know the outcome.
I take it that the Pens Portfolio Two is the best option at this stage - the balanced pension plan. I had been thinking that if she were investing elsewhere at this stage it might be something like Vanguard Lifestrategy 100 - more equities and therefore more risk.
Once again, many thanksDownshifted

You're right that more equities is best at her age provided she is educated by you to know that it is normal and not a concern to see drops of 20% two or three times a decade and 40% once or twice, just as a routine part of the normal 5%+ plus inflation average. It's a rollercoaster in reverse, not a gentle ramp.0

I'm 34 and just got put is Scottish Widows with my employer.
I've switched to the Pens 1 which is 100% equities. It'll be there for at least 21 years if I'm lucky and 31 if I'm not so figured it should be ok.
One thing to note though is there seem to taken me out of the age rebalncing by doing this so ill need to manage that myself.0 -

Or a lot less than 21 years if you're very unlucky.0 -
Thanks for all your help - you were right, the HR Manager had not told the full story and more contributions may be made - either as a set sum or a percentage amount. She can also change her investment, so good news all round.
Now to find out the net result of gross contributions!Downshifted
