Where to buy sweets?!

'ello!

As is standard practice for many weddings, we're having a sweet table. I can come up with lots of ideas for the types of sweets and treats I'd like to have, but don't wish to rob a bank to pay for it all! :money:

Where is the best place to buy sweets? eBay? Amazon? £1 shops? My OH could sign up for a cash and carry, is it worth it for this?

Thanks in advance!

  • We bulk bought in 1kilo bags from Amazon, Was just as cheap as going to the cash and carry and we qualified for free delivery given the amount we ordered with them!

i bought all of mine from Hancocks Cash and Carry online, there was a £10 delivery charge, but for £76 incl delivery, i got more than enough for 100 guests and to continue eating (giving out as presents for my Godsons) for the next 6 months, finally I ended up chucking about 3 1/4 jars out when we moved house!

I got my sweet jars from eBay - plastic set of 19 varying size jars with lids, for about £20, and pink stripped sweet bags from Amazon for about £3 for 200 (got double number of guests so they could come back without having to keep/reuse the bags if they forgot).

Finally after the wedding I was able to sell the sweet jars for £15 on ebay for local collection! :T
  • Online ordering and delivery services from nearby bakeries or online stores are always better option for a wedding dessert tables. They might provide you varieties of desserts to choose or sometimes custom made desserts. Since I live in USA I always refer local directories for online services. Variety and quality in sweets is most important. You can still search in tesco but you might not that variety. I have to UK and Ireland many time so I have some experience regarding this matter. Hope you would find best place.

Remember it's a day with lots of excess, and with the food and wines and cakes etc it's going to be easy to overcater sweets! Maybe stick to a few favourites so you can ditch leftovers on the kids parents to save having kilos of cola bottles going sticky whilst you honeymoon ;-)

Just as a note to the thread, I ended up using a variety of eBay/Amazon & online sweet shops.

I've asked all our guests with a title (ie MofB, FofB, Best Man, Bridesmaids etc.) for their favourite sweet. Makes the table a personal touch then!
