Underwriters reduce affordability

Can anyone shed some light.
Got Agreement in Principle from Natwest. Joint mortgage. Girlfriend credit score not amazing due to moving a few times in the last few years and not on electoral register.

Underwriter has reduced amount based on this and also said that some of her old addresses had unpaid debts. These are not hers but could be parents. We thought that credit scores based on individuals as opposed to addresses. There are no financial associations with anyone else.

Seems strange. Also how does this affect affordability?

May just be the underwriter being cautious. After all it's the lenders money you asking to borrow. There's no right to a mortgage. Lenders are in business to make money. If you don't like the offer look elsewhere.
  • I appreciate that. However the question is more around financial information that is not related to her.
